Tour Description

Make your way to Cairns General Aviation Airport for your flight with Hinterland Aviation along the scenic coastline between the reef and rainforest to Cooktown. On arrival you will be met by Guurrbi Tours for the half-day Rainbow Serpent Tour, with Nugal-warra Elder, Willie Gordon. Willie, the traditional story-teller of the Nugal-warra clan, takes you to the Nugal rock art sites, set in stunning countryside high in the hills above Hope Vale. You’ll visit six sites, including the Reconciliation Cave and an ancestral Birthing Site where Willie’s grandfather was born. Willie shares the stories behind the art – stories which can only be told by Elders of the Nugal clan - and explains how the paintings speak of the essence of life and the lores of his people. With his great smile and infectious laugh, Willie gives you an amazing insight into Aboriginal society and spirituality, and has you thinking about your own relationship with the land and how the lores of his people can apply to us all. The tour includes an estimated 30-minute bush walk. There is a short climb to two of the sites, but generally the terrain is easy. Water is provided, and cameras are welcome.

After returning to Cooktown at around 1.15 pm, enjoy lunch at Cooks Landing Cafe with the reminder of the day at your leisure. Visit the world-class James Cook Museum or stroll along the shores of the Endeavour River. The main street has a charm and historical atmosphere which still prevails. Late afternoon you will be collected by Adventure North Australia and depart Cooktown via the inland road, The Mulligan Highway, traveling through a diverse landscape of cattle stations and the Palmer River Goldfield region, which is the Outback of Far North Queensland. Your amazing day comes to an end as you are transferred to your accommodation.
